How much will a website cost?

The cost of a web site varies depending on your goals, your current situation and what you’d like to achieve in the long term.

Many companies start with a mindset of getting the cheapest website available just to be online and save money. But when they get no visitors or no new business or even worse, turn potential customers off, they have now incurred a far greater “opportunity cost” due to a loss of potential business that a good website would have generated.

With a failure behind them, they start to long for a website that can attract targeted visitors, create trust and capture leads and generate business. Not long after, they create a new website (thus incurring another cost) and start again. This time they may have better success but many skimp again and fail to maximise a decent return on their investment, thus continuing the cycle.

You need start with the end in mind, of developing a professional attractive website that is targeted to appeal to your ideal customer. One that builds trust, demonstrates your abilities, captures leads and is part of a fully integrated marketing system. A website like this will cost more than a bad website that turns customers off but the returns will be far greater thus it will pay itself off very quickly and will continue to be the platform on top of which you continue to grow your marketing and your business.

On our Quotation page we provide indicative budgets you should consider for your branding, website, ecommerce project and your Internet Marketing. Please complete this quote request form and we will tailor a perfect solution to help you to achieve your goals whilst staying within your budget.

I have received cheaper quotes to do my website, why shouldn’t I just go with one of those and save money?

Cheap web designers are cheap for a reason. Usually they have limited skills, very little business knowledge, unproven or non-existent processes and are typically using you as a guinea pig to learn on the job. Your website could be, and should be, your main source of new business, if done properly it can be. So why would you hand that over to some one who’s not going to make that happen?

For a bit more detail on this subject, read our blog post on why Cheap Website Designers Cost More

Why shouldn’t I just design a website myself or get my nephew or IT department to create a website?

Start by reading the answers to the questions above…but just to clarify you should stop thinking of your website as a technical task to be carried out by a technical person or department.

A website should be thought of as an extension of your marketing strategy and the persona of your business. It is the online equivalent of presenting your best company representative to your most desirable potential customer in order to show them how well you can deliver your brand promise and convince that prospect to trust you enough to allow further communication so that eventually they will get to know you and like you and do business with you. In the absence of this best company representative going in person to your prospect, you instead show them your website and say “this is us…this how good (or bad!) we are so do business with us…Please!”

Creating a great website that will become your best salesperson and truly represent your best abilities and qualities is an art form that takes many years of knowledge and experience in marketing, design, branding, sales, communications, technology, quality assurance and relationship building. It takes a talented team and experienced project manager to do it successfully and with as little stress as possible. You also need ongoing support (that you know will be there when you look for them!) so you can continually develop and grow your website to suit the changes in your business and the market.

In fact, if your goal is to save money, then in the long term you would be far better off to hand your marketing over to an experienced team and concentrate on the business you do best. Let them use their skills to free up your time, reduce frustration and deliver results to grow your business.

Will we need to have a meeting in connection with the website design?

In the majority of cases a meeting isn’t necessary. We have worked with many clients who we have never met in person and most of our projects are generally completed with contact via email and telephone only with no reduction in either quality or client satisfaction. We accept project requests from all over the world. If you require help in growing your business and in succeeding online, complete a project quote request and we will do our best to help you to grow your business and achieve your goals.

How long will it take for my web site to be designed?

The timescale of a website design project is often dictated by the client. If you have a deadline in mind we will endeavour to meet it for you. The most common delay in the creation and completion of a new website is waiting for content (text/images) to be sent to us by the client. The best thing to do is view our portfolio in detail, if you like what you see then it is very likely that we will be able to match your requirements.

How many pages can I have on my web site?

If you opt for a content management system you can have as many pages as you like. From a search engines point a view, the more pages you have the better as search engines rank a site based on keywords and on frequency of updates. When Google displays the results, each result is a link back to single page. The more pages you have the more likely one of your pages is related to the search term entered. If you have a small website with less than 10 pages then you’ll have a hard time ranking higher in the search engine results than a web site of your competitor that has more content.

How do I update my website?

We recommend opting for a content managed website or CMS. A Content Management System or CMS allows you to manage your website yourself. You get a back end login area and with this you can add and edit your website’s pages, edit your menu, add links, images, videos, documents, etc. Some CMS systems can be very difficult to use so it is important to get a user-friendly CMS like ours with lots of functionality so managing your website is fun rather than a burden that you avoid.

A site without a CMS is called a static website. We would not recommend that you opt for this older website format. A static site is one which you cannot manage yourself and all changes need to be done by your web designer. These are generally cheaper than a CMS website but as you pay for updates they can often cost you more. The other cost is the fact that static sites don’t do very well in the Search Engines (because they have fewer pages and are updated less frequently) therefore you won’t rank as high as your competitors and you get less visitors, thus less enquiries and less sales.
